I Upgraded to WordPress Thesis Theme

OK all you lurkers in the RSS feed – get over here to the Passive Income blog and check out the cool new renovation! Yes I haven’t been doing nothing much over the weekend – but decided to have a fiddle with the look of the blog and finally get around to installing a new WordPress theme  – Thesis. Now if you have been living under a rock you may not have heard of Thesis – but otherwise you will have heard the a-listers – starting with CopyBlogger and ProBlogger telling you that thesis was the best thing since sliced bread – oh and here’s my affiliate link to buy thesis. So in the passive income tradition – here’s my warts and all review. Its all entirely my own opinion, yes I do get a commission if you buy via my link, and no I don’t think everyone should rush out and buy it just to keep me rolling in online passive income! What I like About WordPress Thesis Theme it costs. Yes that’s right I like that because I really wanted a theme which has ongoing support – and I think this one has got the initial customer base [...] Read more »

Is Today Blog a Scam?

Short version – be careful! I use sites such as HubPages as a way to create content on a different IP and to provide free backlinks to my own sites.  To honest I started with HubPages because I liked the community and now I stay because I liked the community, and because I can get free backlinks to my own sites – I think HubPages is OK with it – they make money from (some) of my hubs and I contribute to their community. Get Paid to Blog: Is it a Scam?

UPDATE Please read this more recent post: Is Today Blog a Scam Getting paid to blog seems to be every writer’s dream and the dream of many who just want to make, what they think is a little passive income online. To be honest making anything more than a few cents with most programs is as likely as just losing a few kilos in your sleep or just getting fit my meditation – it ain’t gonna happen people! So sorry if you are looking to make $100/day blogging with no experience and not much effort – that money tree doesn’t exist! That said  I do directly get paid to blog over at today.com both my blogs: Australia News and Travel Over 30s are still paid – the huge sum of $1/post (usually I’ll get to that) plus $2/1000 views. I’ve stopped directly promoting their ad on this blog though because they tightened up the criteria for payment so I figured most people wouldn’t actually get paid to blog there – let me explain. When I joined in Nov 2008 I got paid $1 from day one and I could have 2 blogs from day one: so by the end of [...] Read more »

Technical problems: comments

Its seems that the comments function isn’t working – thanks for Mike at Retire Young and Wealthy for pointing this out to me! It seems blogger has changed something that’s broken the theme – I like the theme so I am going to give it 24 hours to see if someone knows more than me can fix it. In fact the site I got theme from Blogger Buster has the same problem – I can’t comment there either – I had to send them an email! I am using firefox – so if anyone CAN comment please leave comment saying what operating sysem (Widnows etc ) and what browser you are using! That will help the techies narrow it down. At least now I know why no one was talking back for once LOL! Meanwhile if anyone want to follow I have got myself into using twitter Read more »

Today Works Well for Trends Blogging

IMPORTANT: Read this update on blogging at today dot com – it still works well for trends though. Well I am enjoying blogging at today.com more and more. Mainly because I am finding it pretty easy to get my posts indexed and then get search traffic to them. What I am doing is something that is called “trends blogging”. Google has an appetite and the appetite is for whatever people are searching for at the moment. To check out the top 100 queries at Google trends - trust me it usually makes for pretty depressing reading! I’ve tried using Google trends to blog directly – but to be honest lacking real-time access to US TV is a huge disadvantage – and not caring even less about US popular “culture” is a show-stopper! So instead I am doing my own version: which is currently around a film which is about to be released. I suspect it might be popular because the sexy photos of Nicole Kidman in Australia hub does pretty well. And the movie isn’t out yet – which is the point – the premier is tonight so I wrote about the Australia Movie premier and the post was indexed [...] Read more »

Getting Paid to Blog

I have been having fun over at a newish website which is offering free WordPress blogs – a bit like the free wordpress.com site really. But not. WordPress.com you aren’t allowed to make money so you can’t link to evil, wicked money making sites, which means that when you do blogs often get shutdown. But of course some of us crazed money making types are always looking for new place to develop my own backlinks. So when I heard that a new site was offering not only free blogs but also offering a $1/post I got interested – the rather long review is my blogging for $1/day hub but the short version is: get approved (live in the right country the usual suspects plus Australia/NZ/Western Europe/India), write a post 100 words minimum, original content, not illiterate, get paid. Get second blog, repeat, get paid a total of $2/day. I It won’t last for ever, eventually you will have to get some traffic to continue being paid but its a nice little business model – from my point of view anyway! Now $2 is hardly a massive income: but the cool thing is this: the links are do-follow and you can [...] Read more »

Tips from the First Year On Line

Happy Anniversary! Originally uploaded by bruno1378 Since my last post on Freelance Writing we have had a quick trip back to New Zealand for the New Zealand Dancesport Championships. This is my anniversary post. Sept 2007 was when we arrived in Perth, Western Australia and decided to stay awhile. We decided that I would try to make an online income to replace my IT salary (US$1000/week round figures) – I gave myself until December to do it – LOL I know I wrote how my online business was going up until May – yes ignore the date time travel is alive and well on blogs. March I found a new approach to making money on-line. Wish I could remember how I found it but I found Vic’s Make Money online site around then. He’s responsible for the name of this site because the initial idea was to buy 100 info domains. Well I set up some sites and waited for Google to index them, and waited, and in fact I’m still waiting. Almost simultaneously info BANS sites fell out of favour with Google. I was a little pissed to say the least – in fact I cried in frustration quite [...] Read more »

How did I start Blogging

Sharon over at Get Paid to Write Online asked how I started blogging: here’s how. I started blogging on blogger – then I moved everything over to my own site continuing adventures and now I am back writing on blogger -why you may well ask? Well Continuing Adventures was started when I was trying to figure out how to escape my corporate IT career and planning a camping trip around Australia. I started blogging in August 2006 and from March to September 2007 we were on the road around Australia. I already had my own static site: Midlife Travel but of course found that blogging was so much easier to keep updated. These sites were of course supposed to make me money and keep us travelling – well it didn’t quite work out that way – first off we got tired of camping before we could afford the $200,000 motorhome to make it comfortable. Oh and of course my sites never made me any money either – not even enough to keep us travelling in Asia never mind Australia. Continuing Adventures was basically a journal with photos – don’t bother looking the photos are MIA since I moved hosts – [...] Read more »

Why a Blogger blog?

Update: I moved – this is no longer a blogger blog: and heres why I moved from Blogger Some of you may be wondering why I am using the free blogger hosting to run this blog. After all I pay for hosting which effectively allows me to run unlimited domains so why would I not just run another blog there: after all all I need to pay for the domain nae – which can be had for $1 if I don’t mind a info tld. I started on blogger but moved away from it when I discovered the power of Thanks Blogger.com Originally uploaded by Shavar WordPress. Now for some purposes I think blogger has a place in my empire. Horses for courses and here are some of the pros/cons that I can see. Advantages of Blogger (Blogspot) Blogs they get indexed quickly in Google: not surprisingly because Google owns blogger! This blog got indexed inside about 48 hours. out of the box bloggers are well optimized for SEO purposes. You can do the same for WordPress blogs of course: but that’s the point you have to do it – and many people don’t; it’s idiot proof: its very, very easy [...] Read more »
