Nomad’s Guide to Make Money Online – Book Review

Do want to make passive income online? I only ask because that’s kinda what this blog is all about so I figure that a number of you are looking of information on how to make an income online – and that’s why you come along here and hang on every world I say? The rest of you hopefully found me by doing a Google search and you really should be looking at investing in the Nomad’s Guide to Make Money Online .

Nomadmmo-cover-smallTo my regular readers who just spilt beer/coffee on the keyboard – its OK, I have not decided to write thinly disguised reviews for commission – let me explain. Those of  you who have been following that blog of the Big Ted of making money online should know to pay attention to what he does as much as what he says. There is a new affiliate on his sidebar – featuring Janet’s new e-book and Griz is endorsing it. (Now you have a choice give Griz the commission or me – no pressure – sorry about the keyboard…).

This is the e-book Grizz should have written – but he was too busy making money to get around to it – so “Janet Smith”  has written it – is Janet  in fact Griz in disguise? – but I digress.

First a quick note – you may not want to be digital nomad, a laptop hobo, or a location independent entrepreneur – Janet wanted to be – that’s part of the reson why she titled the book this because her methods of making passive income online allowed her to fulfil that dream. The point is that the methods she describes in the book will work whether or not you intend to move house, move location or move nowhere.  I got into this game because I wanted to live anywhere in the world and support myself and my partner – so the title strikes a big chord with me – getting out of working for someone else is just the start of being free – but being able to live anywhere I want to – without worrying about visas – that’s the ultimate – and the subject of a different post sometime!

What is the Nomad’s Guide to Make Money Online.

This guide is a pdf  format  e-book of some 167 pages. It will cost you US$37. There is a free chapter available from the Nomad’s Guide to  retire early website and  there is a 90 guarantee, money back refund period.

Its no fluff, no bullshite. There aren’t pages of  images of Janet’s claimed income, its not stuffed fool with Janet poising near the pool of her mansion with hot guys passing the cocktails and giving her foot massages. The first chapter is the background – after that its down to the detail: find niches, build websites, get links.

Yes the books costs  – and yes you can find all the information for free – if you want to be bothered looking – most of the references to the useful blogs can be found on this blog – the point is that if you have the cash – buy the book – its well worth $37!

Who this book is for:

  • people who really want to take action and make money – seriously if you buy the book you won’t make money – if you buy the book and take action then you should!
  • people who want to know how to get their niche blogs to rank and stay ranked
  • people who are still struggling to understand how to fly under the radar with Google and why you should want to
  • who can’t be bothered reading all of Grizz’s blogs but understand that he is saying something useful if they could just get past all the extra words …
  • the focus of the book is making money from Adsense but there is some useful stuff on other affiliates and also about launching your own product
  • people who are almost broke – you can implement this book without spending any further cash – Janet includes options for spending cash sure – but ultimately this is based of the “free blog” approach so even buying domains and hosting is optional.  Her unadvertised bonus will also help you along with something that you often have to pay for.

Who this book won’t help

  • if you have no idea where to start – don’t know how to create a a blogspot or wordpress blog and want someone to walk you through the process – this book won’t help you. Don’t know what Firefox is and why you should install it? You will find this book overwhelming.  I’m not saying that the book won’t work for a beginner – but if you lack the basic Internet skills you are going tohave to be prepared to learn those on your own. In fact the level of information in the book may be overwhelming – I’m not saying its bad – just overwhelming
  • if you want to have a famous blogger with lots of subscribers and content – this e-book won’t help
  • if you still believe that you can write top-quality content and eventually make money from it because people will naturally link to you  – this book won’t help either
  • if you already have read everything on Griz’s websites – this book would be repetitive – if on the other hand you want a handy reference point to Grizz’s methods…
  • if you want to find a quick and easy way to make money while you sleep – this book won’t help either – it will make you money if you apply the principles – but its not a get rich quick scheme

What I think could be improved

  • I’m not that keen on the typeface – I like that its easy to read on screeen – but I suspect that there is not quite enough whitespace – between the paragraphs – however I am design idiot and almost anyone else will be able to comment more usefully on that
  • I’d tighten up the writing a bit – I think Janet has been doing long-winded Griz posts for a while and needs to get a red pen out in places ..
  • I think its under-priced – I think v2 could easily price at $97 or even $147 – especially if she added  a podcast , people like to listen on the commute to the crappy job they are trying to escape
  • I understand the title from an SEO and personal point of view – but I think it may be unnecessarily limiting your market – it would be interesting to hear in the comments if those of you who are trying to escape the day job realise that this whole online money-making caper is about location independence too?
  • Janet is using Primus to manage sales – on the sales page you may notice that the price has changed to your local currency, if you are outside the US. If you are paying with paypal and already have a US$ balance – make sure you check the box back to US$ so you don’t end up paying currency conversion fees. Also you don’t need the CD for extra cost or the “one year warranty” – its a single file just back it up – like you should your whole hard drive!

Bottom line is although I got a free review copy I would have paid for the Nomad’s Guide to Make Money Online – and not just because I’m a Nomad at heart!   Its rare that this blog will review an e-book – in fact there really aren’t that many out there which really teach you in detail how to make money online which dont’ require some highly specialist skills. Janet admits to have started from scratch two-years ago – about the same time frame as myself -its a valuable perspective – I doubt that Griz or Vice even remember how much they have forgotten about making money online – they’ve been doing it so long.  From a two-year time frame you can still look back and go – wow  boy have I learned a lot!

Glad to see the review. As an American who lives on the other side of the world from ‘home’ ((Philippines) I continually get queries and blog seached day after day about ‘Jobs for Americans there so I can move there and live as you do’.

No matter how I try to explain the facts of life (jobs for Americans here are scarce as gemstones and you wouldn’t want them anyway), it is very difficult to get people to listen … making your living online is the way to go and the best part is, iy’s location neutral. Live where ever you want to. I promote a competing product but it’s useless it seems .. hardly anyone even clicks let alone buys. The knowledge is out there, it works … I’m a living example … but for some reason we seem to be inoculated from birth that our only lot in life is to work for others. Sad.

I have this book my-own self and would say that she is right on in about 99% of what she teaches. I actually asked her if she was a member of TAA lol
great review, as always Lis, you tell it straight up!

I started pondering your Griz comment, Lissie, and reflected on why Griz might write such a book.

At first blush I couldn’t see a reason.

Then it dawned on me that if the book could have lots of links to affiliate products :-) that it’d make grizzlysense.

Well given the entire method is about making money using free resources – no there aren’t so many affiliate links – and probably some that would surprise JL! Its a win-win book but not the obvious way.

Nice review and damn you were quick off the mark!

I’m signing up to promote this too – and I don’t promo much in the way of MMO affiliate shite as you know, only the good stuff and there ain’t much of that in this niche! Damn and I only wrote a new post in both THW and my terrydidcott blogs yesterday too…

Hi Lis,
This is a very well balanced review on a book about making a passive income online. I think by reading this review a person could really decide if this information is for them or not.
I do agree that the title is probably limiting in who would be interested in this book. I am working toward a life of being able to live where I want but I wouldn’t consider myself a nomad and I wouldn’t really search for that term.
I would probably search for something like “A person who wants to live wherever they want to live for whatever reason guide to make money online.” Actually that is probably too long. Maybe more like “How To Travel and Make Money Online.” I don’t know.
Anyway, nice post.

Lissie, I’m very honored at your reaction to the book! And I’m still not over my shock of Griz’s reaction to it! I really tried my hardest to be blunt, honest, and clear when writing this. It took me months and I was scared to death to show it to Griz. I am not Griz… just maybe the female version? LOL I make money online using these methods, just as many of you in the Griz-Vic-Court circle does. Thanks again for the review!

No problem at all Janet – I think its a great short-cut to spending days reading Griz’s blog!

Liz, I love honest reviews and don’t believe there is anything better than residual passive income. So much of the process of making that passive money online is front-end work. Anything that aids one in determining potential niches or solid condensed advice is usually worth its weight. Good post.

Hi Lissie,

I seem to have fallen off the “no more buying stuff” bandwagon here recently with a couple of software/ebook purchases. So, I suppose one more probably wouldn’t hurt. Although to be perfectly honest, for many of us, the main roadblock to making more money is not actually a lack of knowledge … it’s a lack of applying what we already know. ;-)

Thanks for posting thre review Lissie. I scammed myself a free review copy as well and, while I haven’t yet read it, I’ve skimmed through some of the keyword research stuff (something I have always known about but never really knew how to do properly) and my eyes are already opened. It looks like a good summary for folks like me who don’t ready MMO blogs that often.

I must say this is funniest post I’ve read today. I burst out laughing at “There aren’t pages of images of Janet’s claimed income, its not stuffed fool with Janet poising near the pool of her mansion with hot guys passing the cocktails and giving her foot massages.

I don’t know why some idiots still bother to use that technique. Probably there are still some greedy folks to prey on.
I haven’t seen the book yet but $37 seems like a fair price as most make money blogging guides cost around that amount.

It’s clearly not newbie friendly from your review and I hope newbies know what they’re getting themselves into less they start screaming they want their money back as they’ve been deceived.

Here’s a quick question? Does this book make reference to how Court Tuttle and Mark Butler make money online with good keyword research? I’ve been looking @ paying the $1 fee for their Keyword Crash Course Video Series Program but not having a Paypal account has kept me out.

While I haven’t seen this book personally, I have heard of it. Truth is though as you said, there is enough info on how make money online that is floating around for free. The main reason people don’t make any is because they get so caught up in the “hype” of how “easy” it really is. Anyone who actually does make money online, knows that it takes hard work to be successful. Most people just keep hoping that the next book they buy is going to hold the “key” that will make them rich. Truth is, it’s all about fundamentals and putting them into action. From there, it’s all about doing more of what got you there.
